Channel 5 is a television network in the United Kingdom which has been broadcasting since 1997. It is a general entertainment channel showing internally commissioned programmes as well as many imports from the United States. It is the latter that has been attributed to much of the channel's success with the US franchises of 'CSI', 'NCIS' and 'Law and Order' making up a significant tranche of the primetime viewing figures.

Channel 5 shows pre-school programming from 06:00 - 00:00 each day with a mix educational programmes and cartoons aimed at younger children. The flagship daytime show 'The Wright Stuff' has been running since 2000, with Matthew Wright at the helm deliberating over the current affairs and news of the week with a panel of celebrity guests and phone ins from the public. 'The Wright Stuff' shows on Monday to Friday from 09:15 - 11:00

There have been relatively few dramas commissioned by Channel 5, with the majority of the channel's ratings owing to foreign imports or picking up previously popular programmes from the more mainstream channels such as 'Neighbours' and 'Home and Away'. The channel is also associated with showing many reality TV shows such as '10,000 BC', 'Celebrity Super Spa', 'The Bachelor', 'The Farm' and the international 'Big Brother' franchise.
